More bad news for the unemployed. I can't believe that the Senate is hung up on THIS. Of all the things to draw the line in the sand over, it just baffles me.
The NFL Combine. I am not the sports fanatic that hubs is, so, I had to look up exactly what a NFL Combine entailed. My personal thought on this is moot. I am not into the draft and I think that too much emphasis is placed on sports in college as it is so....enough said.
Batman beats Superman. Who would have thought Batman would ever beat Superman?

Mumps in the Big Apple. I did not realize that the vaccine for the mumps is only 85% effective.
Brand Wars. This is a trend that even I have noticed in my local grocers/Wal Mart. I have to admit there are quite a few items that I buy that are off brand mainly because of price.
The Issue of Privacy. While I don't believe the school system in question meant any malice, I do think things should have been explained to parents in no uncertain terms. As a parent, I would not be happy with this situation.

16 year old kills 6 bulls in one afternoon. While this may be a rare feat, I find it quite unappealing. I am not a fanatic about animal rights but, this is one sport I can definitely do without.
Fake Heroism. This is a common practice among many. To think that someone would lie about being a hero and diminish the valiant acts of the men and women that serve, is truly despicable to me. But, to claim that this is covered under the 1st Amendment, while is may be true, it is just plain cowardly.
Earthquake in IL. IL lies on the New Madrid Fault Line. For those of you unfamiliar with this line, Reelfoot Lake is said to have formed during the quakes of 1811-1812. It is reported that the Mississippi River flowed backwards for at least 1 day.

Snow!!!. I was amazed when I read that D.C. was expected to get 20-30 inches of snow. Some areas are getting 2-3 FEET. I love the South.
Culture Death. I am always shocked when I read of another culture dying out. I am like most I am saddened to say in that if I am not directly affected by something like this, I don't even think about it. But, we are losing languages, customs, and traditions of most of the ancient cultures everyday.
Med Tech. This is good news for all those with loved ones in a comatose state. To be able to "read" another's thoughts is a real break through. I couldn't help but wonder how many doctors and nurses are going over their previous actions/conversations while in the presence of these folks.
Hope you all enjoy your Super Bowl weekend and that you have lots of great company and food!

So much has happened in the last week! I had a really hard time deciding on which 3 things I wanted to share with all of you. I almost added a few more but decided that 3 would be plenty.
I did not put anything in here about the State of the Union Address. I figure by now that has been beat to death. Some of my friends beat me to the Apple unveiling so I dropped that.
I think I managed to come up with a good mixture this week. Enjoy!
Roe v Wade I think the anniversary for this decision was the 22nd of January, but, it may be the 24th. Anyway, this is not your typical site. This is a quiz to see how much you really know about Roe v Wade. Abortion is such a controversial issue that I wanted to do a different take on it this time.
Campaign Finances. Since I am not as informed as I should be on this issue, I cannot comment with any other sites at this time. But, I do think that by allowing unions and corporations unlimited contribution privileges we are asking for trouble.
J.D.Salinger. I don't anyone over the age of 13 that does not recognize the name J.D.Salinger. He was admired by many. He guarded his work and reputation til the end. He was very "Howard Hughesish" in guarding his privacy. What I was not aware of is that the main character in "Catcher" was born in a previous novel. Makes me want to go back and read some more of his work.

Credit Card Law. The credit card companies never cease to amaze me. They are better than the banks at coming up with fees to recoup their lost revenue. If you have credit cards, whether you have a balance or not, this is one article you will want to read over.
Roman Polanski. Once again, Roman Polanski's sexual escapade is in the news. The fact that he has been able to skirt the law for so long, amazes me. Where is Dog The Bounty Hunter when you need him?
Dennis Hopper. I always liked Dennis Hopper. I had no idea he was dying. To be so bitter while on your death bed is truly sad.
That's it for this week's Mixed Bag! Enjoy and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I decided not to post anything on Haiti in my "Mixed Bag". There is a plethora of information out there on the status of the country, people, rescue efforts, and where to donate, that I felt anything here would just be overkill. Now for something completely different.....
Teddy Pendergrass.
Teddy Pendergrass was a baritone among tenors. He was loved by women for his sexy body and sultry voice. He will be missed.
Google. While on the surface this sounds very commendable for Google, upon further examination you see it all boils down to money. Even so, this could be bad news for China. We will have to wait and see.
Sarah Palin. I don't think I have seen a women provoke so many different opinions since Ann Richards. Like it or not, she is here to stay for at least another 15 minutes. Maybe she will finally change her hairstyle. I am sick of seeing it on every woman I pass with medium/long length hair.
That's this edition of Mixed Bag! I look forward to hearing your comments and will talk again soon!

This week's edition of Mixed Bag, is all over the place. I have really enjoyed perusing my week to decide just what to share with ya"ll. I had no idea that I was so extreme in my tastes.
I hope that you find something interesting and exciting to tempt your mind this week.
Hubble Discovery
While I don't prescribe to the "Big Bang" theory, I do find astronomy quite fascinating. To be able to see such photos from deep space never ceases to amaze me.
Patti Smith
. I have always been a big fan of Patti Smith. PBS recently aired a film by Ms Smith. She was an icon of the punk rock era. She is an accomplished poet and very vocal in the political arena. I still can't think of her without thinking of Gilda Radner's tribute.
WSOP This is the poker tournaments to beat all tournaments. Made famous by Benny Binion in the 1970's this has always been held at a Horseshoe Casino. But in recent years, Harrah's has held this tourney at their home property in Tunica, MS. So, Horseshoe has been having all the cash games there. If you follow professional poker at all, then this is the time to see your favorites up close and personal. The cash games are not for the faint of heart. I would not recommend doing what you see on the Travel Channel.

Along with my new look, have decided to add some different things to my blog. This comes after reading many blogs that I truly enjoy and taking some of their ideas and implementing them to my own blog.
"Mixed Bag" is the fruition of that.Since this is the first edition, I am not quite sure how this particular adventure will unfold. So I look forward to your suggestions and ideas as to how I can make this a more interesting addition.
I am currently reading "In the President's Secret Service" by Ronald Kessler. If you want to know about the beginnings of the Secret Service and little tidbits about past/present presidents, then you will enjoy this book.
The new Google Phone. I am really interested in this phone! I am wondering if Google is going to offer it as an "unlocked" phone and how they are going to make it affordable to us working people. Since hubs is a gadget freak, I am hoping to beat him to the punch on this one!
AVATAR. EVERYONE I know has seen this movie. Hubs and I are going to see it Monday. I really hope it is as good as everyone says. I am not a big Science Fiction fan, but this does look good.
Well that's it for the first edition of Mixed Bag. I hope you all enjoy it and I look forward to hearing what you think!

I found this quiz on Chrysalis Dreams' blog. She is the winner of this week's "Blog of Note". I thought it was kind of fun and the choices for answers are quite humorous.
Have fun!
You’re Tertullian!
You possess many gifts, but patience isn’t one of them. You’re tough on yourself — and on others. You’re independent, too, and you don’t like to be told what to do. You wish the Church would be a little tighter in discipline. As for the pagans, you’ve pretty much written them off. Sometimes you think the Church would be a better place if you were in charge.
Find out which Church Father you are at The Way of the Fathers!
I had to Google Tertullian. I had never heard of him.
