The Love Dare pt 1

Starting this month, Family Life Today is doing a 40 day Love Dare. This based on the book Love Dare from the movie Fireproof. If you desire, you may order both the book and movie from their website.

The "Dare" started on Jan. 6, and ends on Valentines' Day. They give you a different dare everyday. You have to add the new dare to the ones you are already doing. Since this is based on Scripture, there are verses to go along with the exercise.

I have started this and hope to finish it without biting my tongue into or killing my hubs whichever comes first:)

Since my hubs is not a believer, I have obstacles that would not normally be in a 2 Christian marriage. My goal in all of this is to learn more about how to express my love for him in a way that will bring me closer to him and God.

Peter writes about how husbands are to love their wives and how wives are to treat their husbands. This is ultimately my goal. Since this passage of scripture is controversial in many circles, I am not going to delve into it here.

If you want to try and do this with me, here are the first 3 dares. They are relatively easy in theory, but not so easy in practice. I wish you all well in accomplishing this and will keep you updated on the new "Dares" and how I am doing with them.

Day 1 - Resolve to say nothing negative about your spouse today.
Since I work nights and he works days now, this is not as hard at the moment as it could be. But we do have several hours together everyday so I do have to watch my mouth:) (Eph 4:2 - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.)

Day 2 - Do at least one unexpected gesture to your spouse as an act of kindness. I am still keeping my mouth shut:) Really, I got up at 6 am and went to Lowe's with him because he wanted my company when buying some equipment he needed for work. (Eph 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.)

Day 3 - Buy your spouse something that says, "I was thinking about you today." Since money is tight at my house these days, I will probably buy him a card or write him a love letter. (Rom. 12:10 - Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. )
